Abbey College Manchester Students Aid Local Residents

Students from Abbey College Manchester recently supported Manchester residents suffering from food poverty, with a generous donation.

A group of charitable students from the city centre-based college worked together to collate a bountiful donation to supply to the local food bank. The contribution will help to provide assistance to members of the college’s neighbouring community who find themselves in desperate circumstances and in need of emergency supplies of food.

The Abbey College Manchester cohort delivered their collection to the warehouse of the Manchester Central Food Bank on Oxford Road, a charitable organisation which primarily serves the areas of Ardwick, Longsight, the City Centre and parts of East Manchester.

Students were met by delighted volunteers who were highly-impressed and thankful for the 20 bags bursting full of both food and non-food essentials.

Teacher of Religious Studies at Abbey College Manchester, Nicky Cathery, who helped to organise the donation commented: “Many people in the UK are going hungry each day for a variety of reasons, and a simple box of food that we may sometimes take for granted can go a long way. I am incredibly proud of how our students came together to donate all sorts of items to this exceptionally worthy cause, from toothpaste and soap, to boxes of chocolates. I would like to personally thank them with a huge well done for generously supporting our local community in this way.”

Abbey College is a leading independent college in the heart of Manchester, with a fast-growing and vibrant community.

There are over 200 students at the college, comprising a mix of students from the local area and other countries. The college offers A-Level, GCSE, Combined Studies and International Foundation Programmes.
