A great grandfather from Cheshire has launched a business that has the potential to prevent the onset of Alzheimer’s disease, thanks to a loan and support from Business Finance Solutions (BFS) the North West delivery partner of the government’s national £310m Start Up Loans programme and a lending partner of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority.
Proving that it’s never too late to become an entrepreneur, Rex Garratt, 68, from Sandbach in Cheshire received a start up loan from BFS to set up an online shop www.silicawaters.com which sells and distributes ACILIS, a silica-rich water by Spritzer.
This detox water is currently being used by UK scientists in ground breaking research in an attempt to prevent Alzheimer’s disease and other neural disorders including Parkinson’s, MS and autism. Sourced from 420 feet beneath the Malaysian tropical rain forest, the water contains high levels of silica, a quality that has attracted the worldwide attention of scientists, led by Professor Christopher Exley, a world authority on aluminium and its connection with silicon at Keele University.
Professor Exley has proved that silica water, which is naturally rich in highly diluted silicic acid, has the power to remove the neurotoxicity of aluminium from humans and is now planning further clinical trials to test his theory that removing neurotoxic aluminium build up in the brain may be a precaution against Alzheimer’s.
John Cannon, Loan Manager at BFS which is part of the Manchester Growth Company, said: “Rex’s story just proves that it’s never too late to start your own business if you spot a great opportunity and want to make the most of it. The evidence and research behind ACILIS is compelling and we were able to make sure that Rex had the funds he needed, in order to act quickly to bring this potentially game-changing product to a UK market.”
Rex said: “Since there is no cure for Alzheimer’s, when I heard about the scientists’ discoveries, I decided to take the initiative to obtain ACILIS water from Malaysia so that people in the UK could try it for themselves. Thanks to the Start Up Loan from BFS, within a couple of weeks of applying for the funds I was able to place my first order for a shipping container of more than 30,000 bottles. In the first week of trading we sold more than 1,000 bottles, and orders are coming so fast, we will be able to order another shipment much sooner than we ever thought.”
Silica water also has anti-ageing qualities that boosts body collagen for better tissue-connectivity, providing anti-ageing qualities for softer skin, stronger nails, supple joints and deterring hair loss.
Soon to be available on the high street, ACILIS is currently sold at 55p a bottle through SilicaWaters.com, Amazon and eBay. Rex will be donating 10% of sales of ACILIS towards further Keele research.
