Sale Golf Club’s new manager John Jackson has considerable experience of golf and he has now achieved a long-standing ambition in taking on his new role.
John began playing golf with his dad at Eccleston Park GC and then Grange Park GC, his local club in St Helens.
By the time he was 17 he was playing off two handicap and in 2008 he enrolled at the age of 18 at the University of Central Lancashire. He graduated with a BSc degree in Sportsturf and Golf Club Management.
In 2012 he got his first opportunity in the golf industry as assistant professional at Pitlochry GC in Scotland to begin his PGA training and qualified as a PGA professional in 2015. He then began working at Myerscough College as their Instructor in Golf.
“Although I enjoy coaching I have always had a strong interest in golf management and when the opportunity as Club Manager came up at Sale I jumped at the chance to begin my management career.
I am very grateful for the opportunity to work at such a well established golf club as Sale and I am really looking forward to this next step in my career.
With the help of the Chairman and board I plan on attracting as many people as possible to the club to help make Sale one of the premier golf clubs in the region.
The club has plenty to offer – the course is great and has one of the best lay-outs around, the members are very friendly and welcoming and the catering is second to none.
We need to be pro-active and spread the word about the club and I think social media is a great way to do this and it is something I will be focussing on by updating both Twitter and Facebook on a daily basis.
I also want to focus on juniors and help build up our junior section. I plan on visiting many local schools and sports clubs delivering free coaching sessions to promote the club and attract new junior members.
Sale is a great club for juniors as we regularly have junior group coaching on weekends throughout the summer and even through the winter months at the Trafford Golf Centre.”
