Carol is a first at Sale
Carol Broadbent is delighted and honoured to be the first ever lady to be the club President of Sale Golf Club in its 104-year history.
Carol said: “At Sale, we had a President and a Lady President up to 2012 and since then, with changes in equality, the club decided to just solely have a President.
I recognise the tremendous honour that the club has given me in nominating me as their first female President. It will probably take a while for our members not to address me as ‘Lady President’ but I am to be known/addressed as Madam President.
Slaters in Manchester (who supply the Captain and President jackets) do not sell an ‘off the peg’ President’s jacket for a female so I had mine made in a tailors in Manchester – also unique!
I served in various roles including three years as social chairman of the club and together with my husband Peter, who has been a Captain at Sale, organised our Council Day Out.
I joined Jack and Sue Barrett as a member of the Centenary Committee in 2005 until the Centenary in 2013 and was proud to organise the Centenary Dinner and Dance at Lancashire CC which was a great success.
When I became Lady Captain in 2008 it was a pleasure to have Maureen Howie as my Lady President and very sadly she passed away last December but was happy to know that I had accepted the role of President for the coming year.
Being the first female President of the club there may be a few things in the President’s ‘bible’ that might need slightly amending to suit, but I am sure that I will enjoy a busy year playing golf, attending presentations and socials and supporting the teams in their many matches and knock out competitions.
My congratulations also go to our Captain Gareth Moore, Lady Captain Moira Forster and Junior Captain Adam Carr. I look forward to giving them my full support and hopefully we can all enjoy a very happy and successful year.”
