Since its formation seven years ago, local choir G:Force has gone from strength to strength with over 100 members. Their next stop is The UK Choir Festival in Manchester.
Led by Steve Cook, Formby High School’s Senior Assistant Headteacher, G:Force Gospel Choir is a truly unique, inter-generational choir that provides inspiration, enjoyment and friendship to its members. In recent years, the choir has seen immense growth and expansion, reaching over 100 members from all backgrounds.
The choir has performed at a number of concerts and weddings throughout the years including a gig at the Museum of Liverpool and Chester’s Christmas Wonderland.
Choir leader Steve Cook said: “As a school, we are immensely proud of the work and contribution made by the 100+ members of G:Force. They assemble for their weekly rehearsals with smiles and determination, and take on a range of repertoire with ease. It is a truly inclusive and supportive musical environment that allows everyone to shine, regardless of ability or experience. Taking part in the UK Choir Festival last year allowed our singers to work alongside some of the best in the business including our gospel hero Rev Basil Meade and the inspirational Joanna L’Estrange who has already visited us ‘up north’ to work with us again.”
The next challenge for G:Force will be The UK Choir Festival on 8 and 9 July 2017 in Manchester. The UK Choir Festival was founded in 2016 and aims to support, train and bring choirs together, allowing them to learn, develop and thrive in a truly unique way. The festival is produced by highly experienced and passionate musical director Russell Scott, who started his musical career in the London Philharmonic Choir over 20 years ago. The UK Choir Festival is designed for choirs of all abilities, age and style, ranging from local community choirs to school or university choirs, barbershop and a cappella choirs.
Russell Scott said: “The UK Choir Festival is a fun, informative and exciting event that involves both practical and method teaching with mass choral singing, demonstrations and final performances. Having worked with G:Force during last year’s UK Choir Festival, I’m really looking forward to seeing how far they’ve progressed, as well as helping to taken them even further after this years festival!”
