Following her appearance on The Apprentice in 2005, Adele Lock, together with other members of the Lock family, opened the first Gentry salon in Didsbury. Five years on, the Locks are still at the forefront of the business development with the latest Gentry Grooming Co opening soon in Manchester’s House of Fraser store (Kendals to me) where they will be offering skin and shave consultations as well as selling their fabulous new men’s skincare range that has taken over four years to research and develop.
What is it? TheEssentialsRange consists of seven daily ‘essential’ products to create an introduction to skincare, shaving, hair styling and grooming for men. Most high street brands contain ‘nasty’ ingredients, Adele informs me. “While researching into natural ingredients and their benefits we came across a selective group of ingredients called Natural Moisturising Factors (NMFs),” states Adele. These selective ingredients complement and mimic the natural structure of men’s sensitive skin (yes you heard right – sensitive) and due to the high content of natural ingredients help to prevent razor burn, ingrowing hairs, flaky skin and other problems men suffer with their skin on a daily basis.
Who will like it and what is the science behind it? Anyone like me who suffers from dry skin will love this range. While the oil and fat components of skin prevent evaporation and provide lubrication for the surface of the skin, it is actually the intercellular matrix, along with the skin’s lipid content, that gives skin a good deal of its surface texture and feel. The intercellular matrix is the skin’s first line of defence against water loss. When the lipid and NMF content of skin is reduced, we experience surface roughness, flaking, fine lines, and a tight, uncomfortable feeling. More important, all of these ingredients help to support the intercellular area of the skin by keeping it intact. This support helps to prevent irritation deep inside the skin, helps keep bacteria out, and aids the skin’s immune/healing system. By using NMF ingredients within these products, they will help your skin to do its job of repairing and regenerating itself without the impedances brought on when skin is suffering from dryness, environmental distress, or excess irritation.
What makes it special? Containing over 93 per cent natural ingredients, it’s a complete and affordable range of all-over body wash, face wash and scrub, shaving cream and oil, face balm and styling cream. It’s a must for any male groomer and priced from just £8.95 upwards.
