Paddy certainly likes this one Comedy legend Paddy McGuiness has certainly had more than a spring in his step recently and it’s nothing to do with fronting a prime-time TV show. It’s because Paddy is engaged to ex-Miss Liverpool Christine Martin, who makes her Manchester modelling debut in a series of provocative photographs shot by renowned Manchester photographer Karen McBride. The shots are on display at the city’s newest art gallery, Brit Art, which has just landed in the Northern Quarter and is set to light up the art scene with its fresh approach on north-west art. The gallery houses original and iconic work from local artists, including Karen McBride’s astounding musical photography, which for the first time is now available to buy through a gallery. Life behind the lens Famous for being the tour photographer on Robbie Williams’ Close Encounter tour in 2006, snapping The Tings Tings and practically every other famous Manchester band, including Oasis and The Courteeners, Karen has a million musical memories from behind the lens, and now the fruits of her work can be bought for the first time at Brit Art. Said Karen: “I’m thrilled to be exhibiting at Brit Art. I’ve been asked over and over to do this sort of project but it didn’t feel right until I met Andy the owner and saw that his creative vision was similar to mine in showcasing Manchester and the local artistic talent it cultivates.” Mancunian music legend ex-Inspiral Carpets member Clint Boon opened the gallery and took home a portrait paying homage to his days in the band. Andrew Hill, Brit Art owner, said: "Since we launched we've had so much interest in the gallery as we're breaking down usual gallery barriers with our relaxing and musical atmosphere. The artists on display are creators of such visionary work and I’m delighted to have my walls adorned with the likes of Tony Wilson outside the Haçienda, Badly Drawn Boy and Manchester landscapes." Other artists on display include Jasper Scholtes, with his pop-art inspired pieces, and Bob Campbell, aka ‘The Stig’, who makes tables and chairs from reclaimed machinery – it really has to be seen to be believed! In a twist to break traditional gallery expectations, customers can peruse the gallery while listening to their favourite tunes as the building is fitted with a Manchester-music filled jukebox that pumps out the very best old and new in musical greats.
