The lands were held by the Bromale family around one hundred years after the Domesday recording. Over 200 years Bramhall was held by six generations of the Bromale family from A.D.1180 to 1380. The last of the Bromales, Alice, was married to John de Davenport, of Wheltrough, and the estate was carried on into that family. In 1070 William the Conqueror took the North-West of the England and the lands were divided amongst his supporters. Bramhall Hall was handed to the Hamon de Massey, who went on to become the first baron of Dunham Massey. In 1845, the railway connected Bramhall to Manchester city centre and this caused the village centre to be moved next to the station where it grew and remains. This, along with the development of extensive countryside into large scale properties, enabled the transition of Bramhall from rural farmland into the desirable residential area it is today. Local personalities include Yvette Fielding, presenter of Most Haunted and Sarah Harding of Girls Aloud. |

Bramhall retains the perception of wealth and affluence and was recorded on a Greater Manchester "rich list" as one of the most expensive places to buy a house in Stockport.
