Knutsford_4Knutsford has become a well sought after residential area, with great bars, restaurants and shopping facilities.

In 2005 Knutsford was named as the most expensive town to buy a house in Northern England.

The town is recorded in the Domesday Book as Cunetsford, a name thought to refer to the place where King Canute king of England (1016 - 1035), forded the Lily Stream in 1016.

Authoress and biographer Elizabeth Gaskell (1810 – 65), best known for her literary biography The Life of Charlotte Bronte and Cranford, resided in Knutsford. The house where she grew up still stands in what is now Gaskell Avenue.

In 1292, the town was given the prestigious title of the 'Capital of Cheshire', after it was given its first charter.

There are many nearby attractions including Tatton Park, Peover Hall and, two miles west of Knutsford, Tabley House and lots of great walks and bike rides in the area.
