Didsbury pupils cook up a storm after Tesco competition win

A pupil from Didsbury CofE Primary School won a food workshop for her class after entering a healthy eating drawing competition organised by the Tesco store in East Didsbury.

The store on Parrs Wood Lane invited primary school pupils from the local area to design a poster with the theme of healthy eating. This was to tie in with Tesco’s commitment to helping children build a healthier, happier relationship with food and understanding the importance of a healthy, balanced diet.

Eleven year old Gloria Spinello, from Didsbury CofE Primary School, drew the winning design, featuring happy fruit holding hands with the caption “meet us in Tesco.” The design has been transferred onto limited edition hessian bags that have been given away in the store.
Gloria also won a Junior Chefs’ Academy Workshop for her class and a £25 gift card for herself.

Junior Chefs’ Academy is a leading provider of healthy eating workshops and food education events, helping children to develop an active interest in how food is produced and prepared.

Pupils in Gloria’s class were able to make healthy recipes whilst learning the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle.

Store manager, Mark Corcos, said: “We had a fantastic response to the drawing competition and they were all very good which made it difficult to pick a winner. We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who entered. It was great to see all creative drawings about healthy eating! It was however Gloria’s bright and colourful design that stood out for us. It looks wonderful on the hessian bags and we are sure customers will love them. We hope that Gloria’s class mates enjoyed their Junior Chefs’ Academy Workshop and that Gloria enjoys spending her gift card in the store.”

Mark went to Didsbury CofE Primary School to present Gloria with her bag and £25 gift card during the Junior Chefs’ Academy Workshop.

Head of school at Didsbury CofE Primary School, Mr Simon Ball said: “The pupils are all very excited that Gloria won the competition, we are very proud. The hessian bags look amazing and are the perfect keepsake for Gloria to remember her achievement. We would like to thank Tesco for inviting us to take part and for organising the Junior Chefs’ Academy Workshop!”
