Most holes-in-one have a relatively small audience to witness the joy and delight of the player securing an ace as they often done on remote parts of the golf course.
But, 21-handicapper and Whalley Range cricket legend Francis Collins could not have had a better stage for his second career ace as he teed off on the 172-yard par three first hole in the middle of President’s Day at Didsbury Golf Club.
Francis holed a glorious four-iron tee shot for an ace much appreciated by his playing partners, the President and the noisy gallery enjoying refreshments around the first tee.
It was the second career ace for the 21-handicapper, his first coming a couple of years ago on the 18th.
Francis added another 97 shots to his ace for a moderate return of nett 77 but ensured that there was plenty of amber nectar for everyone to enjoy at the 19th hole.
