The U16 Boys teams from Cheshire and Lancashire showed great promise and skill as they played some exciting golf in an excellent competition at Didsbury Golf Club.
It was a highlight day for Cheshire’s Remy Miller (Prestbury) as he played his first county match after winning selection for England u16 team to play Scotland.
He was congratulated on his selection on the first tee by Cheshire President Sean Ritchie before he played his singles match against Matthew Jackson (Southport and Ainsdale) and a 4/3 win brought his team back to within a point of Lancashire who had won the morning foursomes by 3-1 with Cheshire’s point coming from Oscar Doran (Delamere Forest) and James Ashfield) Delamere Forest).
Cheshire drew level as Jake Hibbert (Delamere Forest) won his match also by 4/3 over Grady Rogerson (Royal Lytham and St Annes).
Lancashire regained their two-point advantage with wins for George Holland (S and A) and Josh Fallows (Royal Birkdale).
Sam Long (Delamere Forest) and Greg Osborne (Delamere Forest) won their games to again bring the teams level and it was down to the final hole in the remaining matches to decide the outcome of the match.
Lancashire holed a long putt to win one of the games and then a three-putt from Cheshire saw James Andrews (Pleasington) and Ryan Anderton (Chorley) win over Nathan Newton (Upton-by-Chester) and Ryan Owen (Styal).
Cheshire official Andrew Henshall said: “It was a long but enjoyable day as many of these boys should go on to represent the County Boys team in future years with distinction and they all some excellent shots.”
