Beverley’s father joined the Daily Herald when he was 15, and went on to work for the Sunday People until Robert Maxwell made him redundant at the age of 50. This obviously gave Beverley a taste for the industry. She joined the Manchester Evening News classified sales team, and worked on various other projects, including The Media Academy, until she left in July 2002 after 21 years' service.

With four children and one on the way, Beverley decided to start her own business. With the newspaper industry and her advertising knowledge behind her, a local lifestyle magazine was the obvious choice. As planned, the first issue of Didsbury Magazine was distributed on 1 December 2002, followed by the launch of Hale & Bowdon Magazine in October 2005.
