Badger & Co.

If you’re looking for a hearty, wholesome meal in Edinburgh then look no further than Badger & Co. This extraordinary restaurant is placed in the centre of Edinburgh, in the former home of Kenneth Grahame, the author of Wind in the Willows. That alone would be enough to attract many guests, but with a delicious menu on offer and an eclectic drink selection – this spot is hard to resist.

This restaurant can be found on Castle Street, just back from Princess street that runs throughout the heart of Edinburgh. The place is filled with a vibrant energy the moment you enter, and I immediately felt warm and relaxed after being swept in from the cold November streets. Their menu is inspired by local and seasonal produce, with pies and delicious cuts of meat being heavily featured.

I began with a delicious goat’s cheese starter, served with a crisp salad base, walnuts and tanged apple- off to a winner! My partner had the scallops and began the meal equally impressed with everything Badger & Co. had to offer. For the main I was tempted by the lamb gigot, perhaps very slightly overdone, but a large helping was served and I enjoyed the fresh green beans and thickly cut chips on the side. It was the perfect meal for a winters night out and warmed me through completely. My partner had their seasonal pie, which was absolutely delicious and perfectly suited the vibe of the restaurant.

With comfortable chairs, bright lights and gorgeous prints hanging across the walls the restaurant felt almost homely, very in keeping with the Wind in the Willows theme. There were charming pictures of badgers across the walls, reminiscent of the childhood classic and with the wintry food from the wild to go along side it, the experience was complete. To capture the magic further, Badger & Co. offer a private dining room, where you can even take a trip to their outdoor riverbank area. Keep an eye out for Mr. Mole!

To complete this charming meal my partner and I enjoyed a chocolate orange torte and mango and lime parfait respectively. Both were sublime and completed a wonderful evening out. The chocolate torte was run through with orange, which kept the dish refreshing whilst still feeling incredibly indulgent. All the food was beautifully presented and had clearly been prepared with care. Whether you’re a lover of Wind in the Willows, or just fine dining – Badger & Co. is the place for you.
