Alex Mattison, the Academy manager at the Midgelow School of Golf at the Moorend Golf facility at Woodford, has brought a great wealth of experience in golf to his new role for which he has great ambitions.

After enjoying his golf as a junior star at Northenden GC Alex pursued his golfing aims by getting degrees in Sports Technology at the University of Central Lancashire and then a PGA Foundation degree at Birmingham University that saw him fully qualified (Class A) and a level two coach.

He also worked as the Golf Operations team leader at Daufuskie Island Resort and Breathe Spa (Troon Golf) at Hilton Head Island in South Carolina before returning to the UK as the Custom Club co-ordinator for Acushnet Golf Europe.

His next big move was to become the Director of AJM Golf Ltd which gave him roles as assistant professional and then professional at Northenden GC.

He served as the school manager at the Lee Westwood Golf School for a year working as a golf coach on-board for Thompson cruise ships before his move to his present role.

Alex said: “It is great to be working alongside my old friend Danny Midgelow at Moorend which has excellent facilities and great potential for more development. We are able to coach on the latest GC2 and GASP software and offer full day coaching clinics that offer a full day intense coaching on all aspects of the game. We also run the Kids School, which has over 60 children signed up for coaching at weekends and after school and also offer a group roll up class every Thursday. Moorend has a great family atmosphere and all ages and abilities are most welcome to come along and see what we have to offer.”
